Grafton Jan.llth 1873

Dear Brother

I take my pen In hand to convey Sad tidings to you Your Mother is no more. She died Jan 7th of Lung fever. She had been nearly as well as comon untill ten days before her death. The Sickness was short, she had been able to work up some till that time. It Is a Bereavement which on me falls heavy, living with her as long as I have. She was very near & dear to me and it is with feelings of regret when I think how much she has thought of Both of us Especially of you that you should have lived so far from her In her old age. She thought that It might be for your gain and so consoled herself But I do not think It has been as well for you or her as though you had lived nearer to her. But all is well with her hope was abundant and she died In full faith of Salvation through Christ. It was hard for her to talk much But she said Enough to fully convince us she had no fears of death but died In full hope of a Blessed Immortality. The night Before She died she repeated one line of that hymn to me as follows Jesus lover of my Soul let me to thv Bosom fly. She died very Easily and looked as all expressed as if asleep. She retained her senses to the last In a remarkable degree, and now she has gone from us no more to Be with a mother which few have had here.

She has watched over us with a care and Solicitude which few mothers have Expressed. Her desire in Jesus just for your welfare has Been unbounded and while feeling thankful that I have lived with her to the last But it is with regret when I think you have lived so far from her when it did not seem necessary for you to do so feeling as she did such a strong love and affection for you. It seemed hard and it is a question with me whether you are any better off either. But it is true all cannot live at home. But all can live near which for her would be a great consolation and perhaps in the long run none would be the loser but I must close for I have other writing to do.

We are all well as usual I have two children girl and boy the Boy younger 13 months old you will write soon and I will close yours truly

Charles H. White.
